State Attorney Kim Foxx

Kim Foxx is the State’s Attorney for Cook County, Illinois. She has held this position since 2016, following several years of practicing law.

Foxx was born in April 1972 in Chicago, Illinois. She is known today for her role as an American politician and has been serving as the State’s Attorney for Cook County since 2016.

Foxx became the first African American woman to lead the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, which is also the second-largest prosecutor’s office in the country, according to her Adler University biography.

After obtaining a law degree from Southern Illinois University, she served as Chief of Staff for Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and as an Assistant State’s Attorney in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office for 12 years.

Foxx is also a member of the Board of Trustees at Adler University.

Kim Foxx is married to Kelley Foxx, and they have two children together.

Kim Foxx is a Cook County State’s Attorney, who has served as the Cook County State’s Attorney since December 2018. She was appointed by Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker to fill the vacancy left when Anita Alvarez resigned following her defeat in the primary election for state’s attorney, according to her biography on official website.

Foxx previously worked as a prosecutor for the Cook County State’s Attorney Office from 2010-2017, where she served as Chief of Staff from 2015-2017. She also served as an assistant state’s attorney in Cook County from 2006-2010.

When Foxx is not in the office, she can often be found at home spending time with her husband, Kelley Foxx. Kelley holds an MBA from the University of Phoenix and has been serving as a Public Policy Manager at Instacart since May 2020, according to his LinkedIn profile. Kim Foxx is a native Chicagoan who graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor’s degree in political science and sociology. After graduating, she attended DePaul University College of Law where she earned her Juris Doctorate degree.

Foxx began her legal career working as an associate at Mayer Brown LLP from 2005 to 2009 before becoming the Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney from 2009 until 2011. She then went on to serve as First Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney from 2011 until 2017 when she left for private practice at Perkins Coie LLP as a partner specializing in white collar crime defense and civil rights matters.
